One laptop. Two cameras. The input you intended.

Suppose your Windows laptop has its own camera, a USB webcam on your monitor and a separate USB microphone. You want to record a character introduction using the external camera and microphone. Seeing a picture is only the first check: the studio must use the intended lens, and the saved clip must contain the intended voice input.

The full Live Face Swap studio above keeps camera preparation, AI generation and saved clips together. This Live Face Swap PC walkthrough focuses on getting your devices into that workflow before recording your introduction.

Connect the devices before opening the camera. Check the webcam's physical privacy shutter and the microphone's mute switch. Keep AI off while preparing permissions and device choices. This walkthrough uses Windows 11 and Chrome as the settings example; names can vary with browser and system versions.

Existing character-effect demonstration from this project, shown without sound. It illustrates the changed appearance, not a Windows device test or a recording made with the example equipment below.

Use the demonstration to understand the effect, then judge your own equipment in Camera input and your own result in Live AI output. The example character can appear before a camera is connected. Its movement does not establish that your USB webcam or microphone is working.

Check Windows access, then website access.

For a Live Face Swap PC setup, Windows access and website access are separate decisions. A camera that works in the Windows Camera app can still be blocked in your browser. Work through the layers below with AI off, then return to Open camera.

  1. 01

    Allow the camera in Windows

In Windows 11, open Settings → Privacy & security → Camera. Check Camera access and Let desktop apps access your camera. A desktop browser uses desktop-app access; enabling only the Camera app's entry does not establish browser access.

If access is controlled by your organization or the switch cannot be changed, ask the device administrator. Resolve that restriction before retrying the studio. Keep the shutter open when you check the local picture.

  2. 02

Allow this website in the browser

Choose Open camera in the studio and allow the website's camera request. In Chrome, a previous denial can be changed under Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Camera. Find this site in the blocked list and change its permission to Allow.

Return to the studio and try Open camera again. If the browser requests a restart after a system permission change, download any existing clips before closing it. A permission change and a device selection solve different problems.

  3. 03

Give the microphone its own permission

For a speaking recording, check Windows Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone, including Microphone access and desktop-app access. Then enable Record microphone in this studio and allow the browser request. Chrome lists microphone site permissions separately from camera permissions.

The camera preview can work with the microphone off. Enable audio before starting AI if you need it in the saved take. The studio's local camera picture is muted, so hearing no live monitor sound is not a microphone test.

Choose a lens and a microphone separately.

Once access is allowed, open Recording settings beneath the workspace. Camera, Record microphone and Microphone are actual controls in this studio. Make these choices before starting AI; device controls are locked during the active session.

  1. 01

Identify the external camera by its picture

Open the camera, then expand Recording settings and use Camera to select the USB device by name. Look at Camera input while moving a hand near the external lens without blocking it. Confirm that this view responds rather than the laptop camera's view. Recheck the picture after every device change.

Device names may become available after permission is granted. If Default camera opens the wrong lens, choose the named device instead. The selected reference and the idle character demo are not evidence of which physical camera is capturing you.

  2. 02

    Choose the microphone independently

Enable Record microphone, then use the Microphone selector to choose your USB microphone. Choosing a USB camera does not also choose its built-in microphone. Check the selected name and the microphone's physical mute switch before you start.

Use the named USB input for this introduction. The recording below checks captured speech; if your microphone has a switch that mutes only that device, you can also test its mute response. Leave it unmuted to begin. Voice tone alone cannot establish which microphone supplied the sound.

  3. 03

Prepare the reference and recording behavior

Select Face Swap and choose one gallery face or upload a reference. Saved preferences may reopen another effect, so check the active mode. Turn off Auto record for this manual test. Check whether recording is available before starting; if it is unavailable, you can still use supported live preview but cannot complete this saved-clip check here.

Sign in and review the selected model's displayed rate and your credit balance. Local camera preparation does not start AI generation. Eligible accounts can use trial credits to try AI and review supported recordings in this tab.

The selected rate and available balance are shown in the studio. Compare credit options on Pricing if you need more generation time.

Make one speaking take before the full introduction.

Now test the same camera and microphone together. The suggested line below is a practice script, not a measured result. Record a short device check before committing to your full introduction, and keep the studio tab visible while it runs.

This is my external-camera test. I'm recording this introduction with my USB microphone. Here is the end of my sentence.

  1. 01

Start with your own moving output

Start AI and wait for Live AI output to follow a small head movement. Compare it with Camera input: both should reflect your current performance, with the reference appearance applied to the output. The USB camera check should already be complete.

If only the old demonstration moves or the session shows an error, do not begin the introduction. Check the session message and connection. Choose End before spending more time on device settings; a moving example is not your live result.

  2. 02

Record a sentence and check the input

With Auto record off, choose Record clip, wait until recording is active, then say the practice line at your normal speaking distance. If your USB microphone has a device-only mute switch, keep recording, mute that microphone and say, “This part should be silent.” Unmute it and say, “The USB microphone is back.” Then stop recording and choose End before reviewing; stopping recording alone leaves AI running.

This short Live Face Swap PC test checks your complete sentence and current character movement. The optional mute comparison adds a check of the chosen input. Without a device-only mute switch, check the selected device name and complete speech capture; leave the physical microphone source unconfirmed by this comparison.

  3. 03

Listen to the saved take, then decide

Open Review & download and play the clip with playback sound enabled. Check that the practice sentence is complete. If you made the mute comparison, expect audible speech before the mute, no speech during it, and speech again after unmuting. If speech continues during the muted part, recheck the selected input and whether the switch isolates that microphone. Silence throughout is a failed audio check.

A matching mute response supports the selected USB input; hearing your voice alone confirms only speech capture. Choose Download original to keep the recording, then open the downloaded file and check its picture and sound before closing the tab.

Once your equipment is ready, the Webcam Video Recorder with Filter guide covers take selection, trimming and saving a finished clip.

Find the first result that is missing.

Use the first missing result to choose the next action. A Live Face Swap PC problem can occur before any AI is involved. Changing the reference cannot repair a blocked device, and choosing another microphone cannot repair an AI connection.

Windows Camera works; the website still says permission is blocked

Check desktop-browser access in Windows, then this site's camera permission.

The Camera app's success establishes one application's access. It does not establish the browser's access or this website's permission. After resolving the relevant permission, retry Open camera with AI off. Do not use a new AI session to test whether a permission switch took effect.

The laptop lens opens instead of the USB webcam

Select the named USB camera in Recording settings.

Check the local Camera input view after the change. If the USB device is absent, end AI, check the connection and see whether Windows can detect it. Close other camera-using apps while retrying. Keep the useful reference; it does not decide which physical lens opens.

The local camera moves; your AI picture does not

Inspect the studio session, connection and credit message.

An input picture confirms local capture, not a successful live AI connection. Wait for your own output after starting, then test a small movement. If generation fails, follow the studio's error message. Stop the session before troubleshooting further rather than repeatedly recording the same idle example.

The downloaded clip has a character but no voice

Check file playback volume, then the recording microphone.

If the file itself is silent with sound enabled, check Record microphone, the chosen input, physical mute and microphone permissions before making another take. Camera permission is not audio permission. The existing silent clip cannot recover speech that was never recorded.

The USB camera disconnects during AI

Wait for the session to stop, then reconnect and reopen the camera.

The studio stops AI when the active camera track reports that it has ended. Inspect the status instead of assuming a frozen frame is still live. After reconnecting, reselect the device while idle, confirm Camera input and start a new session only when ready. Save any completed clips before a refresh.

Live preview works; recording or MP4 export is unavailable

Follow the available recording and download options separately.

Preview, recording and edited MP4 export use different browser capabilities. If a clip exists, keep its original MP4 or WebM download when offered. If recording is unavailable, do not treat a working preview as a saved video. Use a supported browser setup for the recording task and test it again before a full take.

Check the setup again when equipment changes.

After sleep, a USB reconnection or a browser restart, repeat the local device check before starting another paid session. A saved device choice is a preference, not proof that the same hardware is still connected and available.

  1. 01

Return to an idle studio before changing equipment

Finish the take, stop recording and choose End. Check that AI is no longer active before selecting another camera or microphone. Plug the intended devices in, reopen the camera and repeat the local picture check. Do not unplug a working input merely to identify it during generation.

  2. 02

Recheck sound after a headset or USB change

A newly connected headset can add another input option. In Recording settings, confirm Record microphone and the named Microphone choice, then make a short speaking take again. A remembered preference does not prove that a device is still present or that its mute switch is off.

  3. 03

Keep the file before leaving the tab

Download the clips you want, open the saved files and check picture and sound. Browser-session clips are not a permanent project library. Close the camera when finished. On the next visit, repeat the device check before starting Live Face Swap PC with the same equipment.

Set up your PC camera

Ready to use your picture elsewhere? Continue with Face Swap Video Call for a two-way conversation, or Deepfake Avatar Streaming for broadcast preparation. Each guide covers the additional desktop route; the local studio does not install a system camera.

Live Face Swap PC questions

Does Live Face Swap PC need a Windows download?

This tool runs in a supported browser over HTTPS. You do not install a Live Face Swap PC desktop app to use the studio. Windows must recognize your camera, and the browser must have camera access and live-video support. The Windows 11 example here covers preparation, not a promise that every PC and webcam combination works.

Do I need a dedicated AI graphics card?

Live AI generation uses a remote service rather than a locally installed face-swap model, so a dedicated AI GPU is not required for that model. Your PC still handles camera capture, video playback and any supported recording or export. Check those tasks on your own browser; no fixed RAM, GPU or frame-rate guarantee is established here.

Can I use Live Face Swap PC with a USB webcam?

Yes, if Windows recognizes it and the browser can open it. Connect it before setup, allow access and choose the named camera in Recording settings. Check Camera input to distinguish it from the laptop lens. Select the microphone separately if the recording should use a different audio device.

Is Live Face Swap PC free?

You can prepare the local camera before starting AI. Eligible new accounts can try generation with trial credits and review supported recordings in this tab. AI sessions consume available credits at the displayed model rate. Choose End when generation is no longer needed, including during review.

Why do I see a camera picture but hear nothing?

The live camera preview is muted. To check recorded sound, enable Record microphone before AI, choose the intended microphone and allow audio access. Then make a short take and listen to its playback with sound enabled. A visible camera picture alone does not establish microphone capture.

Does this website replace my camera in other PC apps?

The studio generates its own browser output and supported local recordings. It does not install a system camera device. Using the picture in a call or broadcast needs a separate route and a receiving app that supports it. Complete the local camera check here before following the dedicated call or streaming guide.

Can I change the camera while AI is running?

The device controls are locked during an active session. Stop recording and choose End, then change the input while idle and verify the local preview before restarting. If a USB camera disconnected, confirm that the studio has stopped and reopen the reconnected camera. Keep completed downloads before refreshing.
